KaCIF project participates in the European Researchers’ Night
On Friday September 28th 2018 the project Cryogenic Centre at the Institute of Physics – KaCIF participated in the European Researchers’ Night which was held in four Croatian cities – Zagreb, Split, Rijeka and Pula.
The KaCIF project participated in the European Researchers’ Night in Zagreb which was held at European square. The visitors had the chance to taste Nitro-ice – ice-cream which is cooled using liquid nitrogen. The KaCIF team members demonstrated how to make ice cream in only several minutes by using liquid nitrogen which, due to an extremely low temperature (-196ºC) freezes the ice cream instantaneously. Another useful effect of this fast freezing is a formation of very fine crystals which makes the texture of the ice cream very smooth and improves the flavour. Numerous visitors of the Researchers’ Night were able to taste our delicacies, and the KaCIF booth was, of course, favourite among the children. The combination of fun and science in the shape of Nitro-ice was an excellent way to promote science and to bring it closer to the general public in an interesting and comprehensive way, which is something the KaCIF team will keep on practicing in the future.
